Do you smell something musty or earthy? Is there organic growth that looks like mold? Mold is always a possibility and unfortunately can be very dangerous to you and your family’s health. To diagnose a mold problem, it is absolutely necessary that you have a professional laboratory analysis performed. We at EDC Professional Home Inspections are here to help.
Mold is organic matter and is an essential part of the environment. Only when it enters your home does it become potentially toxic and something that you should take immediate action against. If you have mold inside, that means you have a moisture issue as mold only thrives in moist circumstances.
The most common issue related to indoor mold is allergic reactions. Inhaling or touching mold spores may lead to a runny nose, skin rash, sneezing, and red eyes in allergic individuals. People with asthma may also see an increase in asthma attacks. Even for people that are not allergic to mold, exposure to mold spores can cause skin, eye, throat, nose, and lung irritation.
The key is to identify whether or not you have a mold problem and the extent of the growth as fast as possible. Not only can mold growth affect your health, it can have lasting, physical damage on your home. As part of a Mold Inspection, EDC takes samples for laboratory analysis that determine the potential mold problem within the home. Performing a visual inspection, we’ll be able to identify spots with visible growth and spots that are at an increased risk of mold growth (damp areas). And of course we include thermal imaging to find what the eye can’t see.
What areas can harbor mold?
Unfortunately (and especially in Florida) mold sort of comes with the territory. There can be mold anywhere where moisture accrues. For example, under the cabinets, near the AC unit, or even your carpeted bathroom. Florida is so humid that you can even begin to see mold on your walls if you don’t maintain the proper humidity inside your home.
Mold Air Sampling Test
To accurately determine whether you have a mold problem, we’ll take air samples to search for mold spores that aren’t naturally visible. This is the evidence we need to not only tell whether the problem exists but to understand the severity of it. We at EDC are thoroughly certified and trained to perform mold inspections that collect the necessary data. Once the data has been collected, it is sent to a certified lab for analysis.
EDC Professional Home Inspections provides customers with a MoldSafe Test Accuracy Guarantee after receiving negative test results from the lab. We are so confident in the quality of our inspections and the accuracy of the test results that if they come back negative and there is no visible mold or moisture, the guarantee agrees to cover the removal of visible mold on permanently installed surfaces for up to 90 days.
